MILWAUKEE — U.S. Rep. Gwen Moore, D-Milwaukee, is working to gain support for the jobs bill and stopped at Milwaukee Area Technical College Monday morning.

Moore said the jobs act would help schools like MATC modernize their labs and classrooms.Members of the U.S. Senate voted down the bill.

It has been introduced in the House of Representatives, but it’s up to Republicans to bring it up for discussion and a vote.

“We’re depending on the American people to bring pressure among the majority party to bring this bill to the floor,” Moore said.During her visit to MATC, Moore stopped by one of the school’s welding labs.James Johannsen was looking for the spark that could ignite his stalled career.”I did welding for several years, got laid off and couldn’t get a job,” Johannsen said.But the 29-year-old was hesitant to go back to school.
